Lack of protein in the diet will result in slow growth, reduced muscle mass, lowers immunity and weaken the heart and respiratory system. Protein gives us the energy that keeps us going. The number of proteins needed by the body depends on the body and activity level. A complete protein source provides all the essential amino acids. An example of these is meats, fish, milk, eggs and cheese. A healthy meal is a complete meal. It includes protein rich food, carbohydrates rich food, food with calories, food rich in fiber, and food with fats needed by the body.

The amount of calories the body needs depends on the metabolism and how physically active a person is. If a person can put on 10 pounds by just smelling the pizza then, he should have a daily intake of 2000 calories for men and 1500 calories for women. Carbohydrates provide the energy a person need during exercises. Eating healthy food makes sure that the body has the right amount of energy to see it throgh the day. Whole grain flour, oats, hearty vegetables and unprocessed grains are among the carbohydrates that are slowly digested. These are complex carbohydrates that are rich in vitamins and other nutrients that are beneficial to the body and it is also high in fiber which is important in the digestive system to run smoothly and healthy. Remember that a person need a little of everything. Enough carbohydrate, proteins, fibers, calories, fats, minerals and vitamins and proper exercise is the secret of a strong body.
