Today, purchasing or possessing mephedrone is legal and within the law. This is because the Drug Misuse Act doesn’t cover this drug. When talking about the sale of Mephedrone though, the area is far more grey. The Medicine Act says that it is illegal for any person to advertise, supply or sell mephedrone for consumption by humans. The reason for this law is because it first needs to go through a series of tests for it to be fit for consumption by humans. But, most vendors of this drug consider this only a technicality and they still sell the drug, labelling it as a research chemical or plant food and by marking the bottle as not suitable for consumption by humans.
Vendors can legally sell this drug to people as long as they receive no intimation whatsoever that it is going to be used for consumption by humans as this would mean breaking the rules. If vendors suspect that you are going to be using it for self consumption then they have every right to refuse selling it to you. This drug is illegal in many countries such as U.S.A, Denmark, Israel, Norway, Germany, Sweden and Australia.
