Losing weight is a problem that many people face. There are millions of programs, diet plans, gyms, and supplements offered out there promising to make you lose those unwanted pounds. But if they worked for everyone, wouldn’t one solution be more popular than all the rest? We all want to lose weight fast, but how do we go about doing it?
The truth is that there is nothing more effective than diet and exercise. You’ve heard these two words from a lot of people, but never really take it to heart. Before you should worry about losing weight, you should worry about your health. Whether you want to lose 20 pounds, or 60 pounds, you should think of your health first. Unhealthy eating habits and laziness are the biggest factors in unwanted weight gain. Change what you eat, and how much you exercise and you will see results. Being truly healthy is good for your entire body, your organs, you skin, everything. Once you are truly healthy, your body fat won’t be able to survive, and you will lose weight the right way. The healthy way. This is important for your short term goals, as well as your long term goals and overall health and vitality.

With today’s state of health care, nearly worldwide, it is very well known that it is suffering, and important to everyone. This is a part of the system that affects the young and the old, regardless of gender or ethnicity. It is crucial for the survival of everyone from infants to the elderly. There are many scenarios that can arise, often unexpectedly, in a persons life that can call for the need of decent health care coverage.
Consider the instance of a car crash. Most individuals will be immediately consumed with the woes of insurance and finances that will be affected by such an instance. But more important than this is the idea of injury. Even if it is not apparent the instant of the car crash, many injuries surface later as life threatening conditions. This will involve hospital bills, brain injury compensation, and often court appearances. This affects our job, our families and our lives. It is important that we are all covered, so that when the time comes we are prepared financially to handle such emergencies, and be sure we receive the compensation and help we need to get back on track.

London life can be hectic, people have very stressful weeks and this leads to them needing a big blow out at the weekend. Some people do this by going on a regular night out and having a few drinks, but a large amount turn to drugs for their release at the weekend.
2007 was the last time a large drug survey was undertaken in London and it showed that drug use in London is higher than in the rest of the country. 11% of Londoners admitted using drugs in the 12 months prior to the survey, and this is 0.7% more than in any other region of the UK.
Class A drugs were where the big differences arose, with 5.2% of respondents using these in London compared to the 3.4% in the rest of the country.
For numbers of people checking into a drug rehab clinic London was highest again with 29,131 going into treatment over that year. This is when drug use goes from being recreational to being a major addiction. This is when it starts to affect their lives and their families.
But why does this happen more in London than elsewhere? Well it is most likely down to two reasons, the first is the pressures of life in London. People work long hours, sometimes 12-16 hour days are the norm to meet the deadlines of the big business that happens in London. They see their weekends as being the time for fun in a “work hard, play hard” mentality, and the drugs take away their stresses and take their mind off the crazy weeks.
The other reason is simply the prevalence of the nightlife in the city. There are clubs and bars everywhere and this is where the majority of the drug use goes on, and much of it is recreational however the more use there is, the more chance of it becoming an addiction problem.

The trappings of fame have lead many astray over the years, and it can look from the outside like this party lifestyle is great fun and that celebrities are untouchable. However this is not always the case, as many celebrities over the years have ended up in drug treatment centers due to their excesses. These are from all industries – from film to music, and we have chronicled 5 of these who took it to the extreme.
Peter Doherty
The former Libertines and now Babyshambles singer has been arrested for drugs possession and been in rehab more times than you can possibly count. His most recent misdemeanour is appearing in court and being found with heroin on him. You really can’t make it up! He has been in and out of rehab for a good 5-6 years and anyone who has been to see him play live knows that you never know which Pete is going to turn up, whether it will be the drugged up one or the genius songwriter version.
Charlie Sheen
The Two and a Half Men star had a wild time in his younger days, and has ended up in rehab a couple of times, amid rumours of “alcohol and drug abuse” from ex-wives. In an interesting twist his current wife went into rehab recently.
Robert Downey Jr
Another actor whose drug addiction started when he was only 6 years old, and by 22 he was hopelessly addiction. He was in and out of drug treatment centers for years in the 90s, and only now is starting to get his life back together
These are just a few of many examples and should serve as lessons to everyone, that addiction doesn’t happen only to “normal” non-famous people but also to these celebrities who are so idolised in the media.

A government inquiry has revealed that certain alcohol companies are promoting their drinks at youngsters so that when they do start drinking they are already taken in by a specific brand. Leaked internal documents from marketing departments are showing that market research undertaken using 15-16 year olds are being used when crafting new campaigns, and that companies are making it a priority to target new drinkers who have just turned 18 to create some sense of brand loyalty in early days.
There is a code of practice that alcohol advertisers must abide by says that anything to do with youth culture is out of bounds for alcohol advertisements, however the documents in the Government report show that they are just finding new disguised ways to meet their marketing objectives, which include the recruitment of new drinkers and encouraging higher consumption.
Various groups such as Alcohol Concern want alcohol advertising banned, including sponsorship of sport teams, events and music festivals as they want to reduce the exposure of alcohol to young people as they are worried it could turn them into alcoholics later in life.
There have also been calls to increase the price of alcohol and to remove all pricing promotions offering cheap alcohol in both supermarkets and bars, reducing the ability for youngsters to get hold of alcohol and making it more expensive for people to drink to excess.
The concern of these groups is that if people start drinking from a young age, it may lead to problems later in life, thinking they could end up becoming alcoholics and needing alcohol detox treatment.
Professor Gerald Hastings of the Institute of Social Marketing in Scotland is saying that “alcohol advertisers are drinking in the last chance saloon”. It remains to be seen how right he is, but with his assertion that this is similar to tobacco advertising which eventually did get banned it will be an interesting time for all alcohol marketers.

Today, purchasing or possessing mephedrone is legal and within the law. This is because the Drug Misuse Act doesn’t cover this drug. When talking about the sale of Mephedrone though, the area is far more grey. The Medicine Act says that it is illegal for any person to advertise, supply or sell mephedrone for consumption by humans. The reason for this law is because it first needs to go through a series of tests for it to be fit for consumption by humans. But, most vendors of this drug consider this only a technicality and they still sell the drug, labelling it as a research chemical or plant food and by marking the bottle as not suitable for consumption by humans.
Vendors can legally sell this drug to people as long as they receive no intimation whatsoever that it is going to be used for consumption by humans as this would mean breaking the rules. If vendors suspect that you are going to be using it for self consumption then they have every right to refuse selling it to you. This drug is illegal in many countries such as U.S.A, Denmark, Israel, Norway, Germany, Sweden and Australia.

We have had several emails from readers who want to stop snoring, so I thought we’d look into the causes behind it:
Contributing factors to snoring:
There can be several factors which lead to snoring, including:
- The anatomy of your mouth. If you have enlarged tonsils or a thick soft palate then you may be more susceptible to snoring. If the triangular tissue hanging from the uvula is elongated or misformed, this can obstruct the airflow, causing vibrations which may lead to snoring.
- Being overweight. Overweight people have a larger chance to have narrowed airways, which may lead to involuntary snoring.
- Consuming alcohol. If you drink too much alcohol late at night, this can be a contributing factor to snoring. Alcohol causes snoring by relaxing your throat muscles and decreases your defences against airway obstruction.
- Nasal problems. If you have a deviated nasal septum you are likely to suffer from snoring.
- Sleep apnea. If you have sleep apnea, this can often be linked to snoring. Sleep apnea causes your throat tissues to obstruct the airway. This often leads to load snoring followed by more than 20 seconds of silence. The lack of oxygen will force you to wake up – a pattern which may repeat itself many times through the night.
There are many snoring cures available, you should contact your family GP for advice if you or your loved ones are suffering.

If a medical professional has given you, or not given you, medical treatment that was below standard expectations and you suffered an injury because of this and this was a foreseeable injury, you could define that as clinical negligence. Basically, a doctor treated you badly and you suffered as a result. If this scenario fits you, then obtaining legal advice and filing a complaint is your next step. The complaint procedure will then be described to you and then guided by a clinical negligence solicitor. If you are still hospitalized, the first complaint goes to the medical profession in charge. You then need to explain that a formal complaint is being made and ask for a response in detail. If unhappy with the response you get, then the hospital’s complaint manager needs to hear from you. If you have already checked out of the hospital, you will need to send a letter to the Hospital Complaints Manager and that should generate an appointment for a consultation. Here you will discuss your situation in detail and this is called the Local Resolution.

If you have unfortunately been the victim of an accident and suffered an injury as a result of someone else’s negligence, you may be entitled to compensation. Claims for compensation can result from all sorts of accidents. Accidents at work, on the road or trips and falls can mean that you are entitled to some sort of financial compensation.
Providing that you are not directly at fault for the accident and you have genuinely suffered an injury or illness as a result, you should seek a personal injury compensation claim.
Every accident is different and so also is every claim for compensation. A specialist personal injury compensation solicitor will be able to advise you of the best course of action and will also be able to fight the case on your behalf.
You will need proof of the injury or illness that you have suffered and it may also be helpful to have witness statements to backup your claim.
Most cases are settled out of court within a few months but there are some which will take years and will result in a court hearing.
There are two types of damages awarded in these cases. General damages take into account the injuries and suffering that you suffered as a result of the accident. This is the most common type of compensation. There are also special damages. Special damages are monies awarded to reimburse you for any costs that you have incurred as a result of the accident. If it is a severe accident that has resulted in a disability, special damages may be awarded to help you to renovate your home to make way for wheelchair access etc.
